Looks like Kimbo Slice will be returning to backyard BBQ fighting after all. After almost two years of operation, ProElite has met its “ULTIMATE” demise (no pun intended!). A potential buyout from Showtime could have saved the organization but the “Kimbo Slice/Seth Petruzelli” scandal tainted the waters.

On Sept. 17, Showtime Networks filed public notice with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announcing its intention to enter preliminary negotiations for the purchase of the fledgling company.

But negative press surrounding questionable conduct before the main event between Seth Petruzelli and Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson have overshadowed the ratings success. Petruzelli, who stepped into the headlining bout on an hour’s notice and beat Slice in 14 seconds with a short right jab, intimated afterward on a Monday morning talk show that promoters had given him added monetary incentive to stand with the less ground-savvy Slice.

EliteXC Executive T.Jay Thompson confirms the “Sandgate” scandal with

“I don’t have a smoking gun, (but) I’ve been around long enough; I’ve talked to enough people that were there, I won’t name names of executives in the company that I know. Seth was paid to stand up. I’m confident of that. If the commission wants to talk to me, I’ll tell them what I know.”

CBS, however, may not be hanging up its gloves. MMAPayout.com reports that “CBS reportedly may continue in MMA, with speculation centering on a possible partnership with Affliction.”
